To me that is you saying we must stop it, maybe you aren't putting your point accross the way that you mean to but the above does seem fairly clear to me. The fact of the matter is that as temperatures slowly change we will adapt and we will deal with it, we don't need to have "special" plans.

You are saying that the world is going to end and if we don't get ready for it now we will all die which is utter bollocks, just look back at the things you have said...

    While we still have food
While we still have an infrastructure
While we still have somewhere habitable to live

Get real, none of these things are going to suddenly fall apart (well OK our infrastructure has been falling apart for the last 10 years, but that is nothing to do with climate change, just an incompetant government). We don't need to do anything special to survive climate change it's not an extinction level event.

The simple fact of the matter is that we don't really need to do that much right now, using energy saving light bulbs is fine by me as it reduces my electricity bill, but i'l not going to trade in my car for a bike to save the planet and 99% of people aren't going to either. you are hyping up a load of heresay and supposition and trying to make out it is a big problem that will kill us all when that is not true!!

I await the "WON'T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN" knee jerk reaction....

Yeah, I don't think that post came across right, as you say.

I was originally responding to this post:

It was that "rest of us" which I was quoting, slightly sarcastically, in my response:

And seeing as even the presenters of Live Earth seemed sceptical, or simply didn't appear to have a clue what it was all about in the first place, then I kind of doubt that any belt tightening will be happening round here in the near future, so prepare to be a bit more than irritated I would say.
So, yeah, I accept that that's an ambiguous comment, but throughout the entire rest of the thread I said, "get prepared" rather than "stop destroying the planet".

Well, you know, this is where we just have to agree to disagree. I tend to combine the end of oil with the effects of climate change in my own personal predictions for what I think is going to happen. It's absolutely true that I may be totally over-reacting. But as I said earlier, I won't lose out in any way by being prepared. I can still enjoy modern life for the time being. I'm not planning on going Amish until I have no choice, but when (if) the time comes when I do have no choice then I'd like to be ready and not have to adapt.

Oil will never end, only get more expensive so the upshot is we adapt or we will be going back to Victorian times where the rich (and by that I mean the very rich) will rule the roost and the rest of us will be scrabbling a living from whatever land we can afford to rent.

Not so bad, I know my place!
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

The human race will invent a replacement for oil, we have an amazing ability to adapt.

What, that it is sunny and there is a nice blue sky, or are you talking about the water that the sky has just dumped on the ground - you know, that rain stuff.

The climate may be changing, it has been doing that for a good few years now. After all Greenland was once covered in Lush forests and is now covered in ICE so there is a good chunk of space yet for it to increase.

There are questions about how much melting ice will raise sea levels, questions about how much ice is meliting, ditto glaciers. How much Co2 is absorbed by water/forest, how much is down to volcanic activity, solar activity, questions about how high the temperature will go, even questions about the accuracy of the data models. Then it might been cooling in some areas. Fresh water being dumped into the oceans from melting ice will divert some current flows in the N. Atlantic and actually reduce temperatures in the North West of Europe.

Teaching Geography is now being subsumed into some great Global Warming Propaganda. So children will 'know' that the world is getting warmer but they will not know how to measure by how much! (Mind you I'm not sure the scientists do either)

              I love Topical debate.

              It makes some people smile.
              It makes some people angry.
              It makes some people Question.
It makes some people Google like maniacs.
But most of all, It makes people "Think"

We are all thinking of the children. It will effect them more than us so they can sort it out when they grow up
