In the early 90s I was involved in one of those anti-Nazi demonstrations - specifically the one that was to march on the BNP bookshop. There was trouble when the police blocked the route and with a 100,000 or so people pushing from behind the police line was under strain. So the police charged the demonstration on horseback. In retaliation, certain elements of the crowd started throwing things at the police.

However, I was surprised to find when I got home that the BBC news had edited the footage to show people throwing things before the police charged.

That was the moment that I started distrusting the BBC news (and all other news media for that matter).

I still support the BBC for it's production of quality programmes (documentaries, Dr Who etc), and gladly pay my TV license fee for this purpose. One needs to only compare the programming output with ITV to see the benefit.

I've not trusted them since some presenter on Radio 5 Live wondered out loud why you say some abbreviations as words, like NALGO, and others as letters, like BBC.

The BBC produces little of real merit IMHO. Other channels, nothing.
