Why on earth would anyone want to spend time on a floating tower block with up to 7,000 other people?

They are referred to as floating Butlins in the travel trade. I much prefer the old small cruise ships with wooden panelled rooms, white table cloths and a decent bar. Having mass self-service and mass organised entertainment is not my scene.
