What's so special about 1 year in your scenario, why 1 year, why not 2 years?

Why not 1 year and 1 day? Seems arbitrary to cut off at 1 year.

My new UK passport just arrived this afternoon - no need to feel sorry for me as I have an Irish passport as well. I compared it to my very old black passport, which is probably a bit faded, and I would say the new passport could be described as either black or blue-black.
