Rishi Sunak considers email tax in bid to save Royal Mail

“ Rishi Sunak is considering a new tax on emails amid mounting concern about the collapse of the Royal Mail as Britain emerges from the coronavirus crisis.

The chancellor is examining proposals for an email tax to provide a “sustainable and meaningful revenue source for the government” and help Royal Mail to compete.

In a call for evidence published last week, the Treasury highlighted concerns that internet was effectively penalising the Royal Mail because people did not need to send letters.

Would they at least give 90% discount on internal email?

A tax on posting utter tulipe on Internet forums would be better.

I'd suggest £50 per post as a starting point.

Make the requirement so that the servers are installed on the high street and if you want to post something, you would have to meet the server personally and insert a letter with the forum posts. Servers could actually be installed in the red post boxes.

I hope he doesn't forget about WhatsApp. All those WhatsApp messages, we could have been sending via pen and paper!
