Starbucks is at the bottom end of the coffee league. They buy there beans on price and so the supplier and quality is inconsistent. (Starbucks pay around £8 per kilo when a good coffee costs around £60 to £70 per kilo) Some of the outlets are better than others. I have been mainly disappointed when I have bought from Starbucks. The Coffee is week and without a full flavour, often the milk is either reheated or it is overheated giving it a burn flavour.

People like to be seen is Starbucks, it is part of the hype that these chain business promote. I am sure if you found a nice independent Italian Coffee shop you would find the Coffee much better and even cheaper.

Saying you had a great coffee at Starbucks is like saying you had a great dinner out at McDonalds.
Listen to the man, he knows his onions.

Of the "chainy" coffee shops I find nero comes closest to a decent cup, I dont know if is the staff training, the roast they use or just my own peculiar taste - but there you go.

eitherway - starbucks (and their ilk) generally peddle fat and sugar just like most fast food joints. Who the feck orders a pint of friggin vaniila egg-nog latte or such sh1te anyway? they should be shot.

so reccomend a decent coffee place in richmond then....

we have a coffee republic and a pret a manger(?)
not sure about independent italians though.....
Richmond Upon Thames? There are plenty of great places to have coffee - the best one is at the choclatiere's place on Old Palace Terrace, the street behind Dickens & Jones, opposite the Jewellers. Fantastic. Also - the Chocolate Cafe on Red Lion Street.

I'm getting into appreciating good coffee - buying 100% arabica for home & considering getting a grinder and buying beans. Any tips welcome.

DECAF??? ARE YOU MAD? Blimey... what's the point of that??? Next you'll be recommending meat-free steaks or soya-free tofu. Are you sure you're not a tree hugging hippie type? I'm sure they don't allow them on this board.

I remember the good old days of this site when people used to moan about serious contractor related issues like house prices and immigration. How times have changed!?

Starbucks Caramel Macchiato for me. A little taste of heaven.

Of course, stupid Sunderland doesn't have a Starbucks. Its like living in the back of beyond sometimes
