Today? Don't knock today's music too much. People were saying the same things in the sixties when the charts were full of "long-haired layabouts"!

the thing is there are some great bands out there, the killers, artic monkeys, the klaxons, lily allen, some good songwriters, james morrison, but there has not been one band that has had such an impact on the majority of the countries music fans like Oasis.

Someone please name one band who has? Since Oasis.

A band that you could put up against any major classic like The Stones, or The Beatles or Led Zep?

Like I said, it was tedious.

I meant the magical mystery tour not yellow submarine. I went to check the track list (its been a few years since i listened to it.) and realised my error.
Doubt that will appease you though!!

After Kasabians first album, I though we finally may have had the band that was so desperately needed to take over from Oasis.

Then I heard the second album, and realised just how wrong I was.

When my band gets a record deal, we'll take over the world....

good lord what a bizarre thing to say - i suppose you mean rather like most man united fans have never been to old trafford.

how many beatles fans on this board have none of their music?

there is one studio album of theirs that i have never owned and that is "with the beatles". i am waiting for a special day when to get it.

Well, great bands have never been ten-a-penny.

Another thing you've got to remember is that Oasis came at the end of the charts being the overwhelmingly major influence, so there isn't a prime focus for "what is hot" like there was for the preceeding forty years.

Now people look all over the place and find different stuff - more radio stations, the introduction of Sky music channels, and the internet.

Led Zep were one of the few non-chart bands who made a big impact, but don't overestimate the impact they had. It wasn't as much as the Stones or Beatles. I hear very little of their stuff on the radio, TV or satellite now.

That was the very first CD I bought. I have since learned better, and now buy records again.

A £200.00 CD player may sound better than a £200.00 record deck, but a £2000.00 turntable sounds a whole lot better than a £2000.00 CD player.

Oasis? They have one neat trick, they sound highly reminiscent of the Beatles. So they can sound like the Beatles up to about half of Rubber Soul, 40 years after. Big deal. How the Beatles sounded in the early 60s was just the start.

                    I have:-

                    Rubber Soul
                    Revolver
                    Sgt Pepper
                    Magical Mystery Tour
                    White Album
                    Abbey Road
Let It Be (the "naked" version without Phil Spector's awful production)

                    Does that make me unusual?

hmmm, one of the best rock voices? You ever heard Chris Cornell or Eddie Vedder?
