I might look at the auctions. This is what I am after (not the 5-20 acres) the bit about it being a wreck.

I can move whenever, have a place to stay in the mean time (parents) and am fairly doodey at DIY and know (a builder and plumber) for anythimg major.

Problem is that every fecker in the country is looking for houses like this now - goddam TV shows.

I have a 4-bed detached house in Edlesborough. Feck knows what it's worth, but I still owe 45 grand on it.

I'm living in Leatherhead with my partner in a 4 bed worth 550k, have a 6 bed house in Bromley worth 500k and two flats in Highbury, one's a two bed worth 300k and a 3 bed worth 450k and a 5 bed cottage in the coutryside near Sevenoaks worth around 425k....all with mortgage's but slowly reducing them with the rent. Used to have a coupple more flats but sold them for a tidy profit I don't like to add up what I owe on them as it makes my eyes water!!

4 bed detached worth 280k (I owe 60k on it). Paid 110, should have maxed out when offered 186k at the time and bought as big as I could, but it's easy to say that now.
Pep's Isa's and shares worth about 100k which are ticking over nicely and I have missed the BTL boat so I don't worry about it. Plan to be able to bail at 55 if I have to and at 60 for certain.
I think people over-estimate what they need when retired, poor people will stay poor, those with property, investments and a sprinkling of pensions will be fine.
My parents were comfortable but lived modestly for 40 years and have ended up with substantial reserves in property and investments, meaning they could have spent much more than they did.
Money gives you freedom and choices e.g. whether to work, where to go, what to do. I like to have some stashed but you really have to squeeze some fun out of it while you are here (briefly)

And with house prices to go up 15% this year, you must be sitting on millions.

No - they will be hammered mercilessly by the evil Robber Barons aka The Labour Party
