ULEZ only rich people can drive in London

But a £3K Ford Mondeo with a 3L engine doesn't even need to pay:Originally posted by tazdevil View PostSo Mr Khan is delighted to be charging an extra £12.50 per day to drive in London with the new ULEZ. Fail to pay and its a £160 fine, but better than lorries who have to pay £100 per day and if they fail to do so a £1000 fine
So not only can people not afford to live in London they also can't afford to drive in London and I guess taxi fares and so forth are all going up because of this. Will ULEZ see the death of the town centre or is this a ploy to make overpriced electric vehicles look affordable?
FY52FPT Silver FORD MONDEO ST220
No ULEZ charge due for this vehicle
This vehicle meets the emission standards for ULEZ so you don't have to pay this charge when driving within the zone.
No LEZ charge due for this vehicle
This vehicle either meets the required emission standards, is exempt from the scheme or is subject to a 100% discount.
Can you not afford a 17 year old Mondeo?

This is the way of all taxes, get the charge in and accepted, then steadily raise the threshold so more vehicles are caught - at what point would you protest?Originally posted by NickFitz View PostAssuming you're driving a moderately up-to-date car, you don't have to pay the new charge. My 2001 Toyota Corolla 1.6 won't be charged. My 1989 Ford Orion 1.6i Ghia, sadly, will; but I don't usually take that to London anyway.Comment

It's about time cars were taxed more for polluting city centers. Get on her bike fattie and save the NHS some cash.
If your to far to cycle look at mass transport or buy a car that is exempt.Make Mercia Great Again!Comment

If he was serious about air quality, he would ban the cars not tax them.
He has increased traffic on the inner london ring road. And soon he will increase traffic on North/South circulars. What is wrong with tightening the LEZ which basically enforces traffic to keep to the M25 or outside?
Anything that annoys car drivers and encourages cycling/walking is good in my view.Comment

Yes, lots of people I know get a train to London then cycle or run the rest of the way. Good for them, good for the environment where very meritocratic, even poor people can do it.Originally posted by BlueSharp View PostIt's about time cars were taxed more for polluting city centers. Soon to be rolled out to other cities...Comment

They are a very scary lot. One guy spearheads the pro-cycling campaign in London. He funds the annual cycle to protest against cyclist deaths.Originally posted by jds 1981 View PostBecause politicians and the London mayor run tulip scared of the black cab lobby.
As he is also against diesel black cabs due to their high polluting rate, he gets regular death threats on twitter. He also runs a small business that gets regular made up bad reviews. I really take my hat off to him.Comment
