I don't think you're being rude at all BP.Originally posted by BagpussI thought it ended because the Soviets were bancrupt after fighting the US trained taliban/terrorists in Afghanistan. Not meaning to be rude Lucy but it strikes me you have learnt a version of history. The Neo Cons would love to think they brought down the USSR but it's not strictly true well unless it's history written by a neo con of course.
My understanding is the Soviet Union was in serious decline (Afghanistan being one factor), when Reagan and his Star Wars programme exacerbated the crisis by forcing the Soviets to increase the military budget which they could not do.
I don't believe I'm a Neo conservative.Comment

I don't believe I'm a Neo conservative. The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.
But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”Comment

why do you think gordo can state this:
No fecking wonder, he's paying all the feckless layabouts so he can raise the income per head level...He said 10 years ago, Britain was bottom of the G7 league for national income per head but was now second only to the US
Older and ...well, just older!!Comment

If I earn 50k and my mate 'earns' 10k on benefits, but I give him 10k now our earnings are 40k and 20k
the mean income per head is still the sameThe court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.
