We'll have to see what the 1922 Committee decides. There's no mechanism for coronation at this stage, but presumably they'll have to fudge something to get her in post ASAP, rather than putting up a lame duck candidate and going through the motions. Strictly, according to their rules, they should do the latter, but these are not normal times.Comment

BTW, I didn't find May too impressive in her pitch this morning. She's clearly Continuity Cameron, but with added Miliband.Comment

There aren't any stand-out candidates to be fair; confidence in politicians appears to be at an all time low so now probably isn't the best time to stick your head above the parapet unless you've got good backing from within the party. The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world that he didn't existComment

I think she's been 'advised' to step down. The next wave of attacks would have been her tax returns (She only released 1 year's worth).
If May gets in ASAP and takes about 3 months to get her 'Ducks aligned' then I see no reason why Article 50 cant be triggered around November/December and the negotiations commence in Jan. It would be wise to use the summer vacations to do informal negotiations with other European leaders to try and get the broad framework in place.Comment
