Isn't it time to acknowledge the referendum has been a complete catastrophe?

It's not set in stone. It's a political situation and these are solvable. With the appropriate will and attitude on all sides.

I understand that you may be feeling very unsettled and perhaps even in despair because the outcome was not what you wanted. That's a natural human reaction. Give it a few weeks and it will settle down.

We are going down a different path now. But it can still work out for the citizens of the UK and those of Europe.

This is democracy in action. Democracy is noisy and messy. But it's better than the alternatives.

Hmmm well both Thatcher and Attlee thought referendums were fundamentally undemocratic.

      Or as Churchill said:

"A 5 minute talk with the average voter is the best argument against democracy”

Also don't forget Hitler used 3 referendums to get his way on various matters, quite simply because he could easily manipulate the masses in a way that he couldn't with people who had a bit of a brain - a bit like Farage.

In this case the issue was far to complicated to entrust to the public.
And this decision will have no positive outcomes.
Neither Gove, Boris or Nigel really thought they would win.

I thought you said the time for empty statements was passed?

"Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others."

The Swiss have plenty of referendums. They seem to cope with them. We should have more. The idea that the average person should not have a say on complex matters is just sheer arrogance.

And this decision will have no positive outcomes.
That is completely unprovable at this stage. It is entirely feasible for a satisfactory outcome. It is also possible for a complete disaster.

        Well we agree on that!

Well it's too late to complain about the referendum. It's done now and we have to move onto the next step. The best thing would be to cave into Mr Farage's as he fights for a second referendum with a clear result.

Nigel Farage warns today he would fight for a second referendum on Britain in Europe if the remain campaign won by a narrow margin next month.

The Ukip leader said a small defeat for his leave camp would be “unfinished business” and predicted pressure would grow for a re-run of the 23 June ballot.

Farage told the Mirror: “In a 52-48 referendum this would be unfinished business by a long way. If the remain campaign win two-thirds to one-third that ends it.”

I think there's plenty of evidence that this referendum has proved otherwise.

You're right - there may be a satisfactory outcome or a complete disaster.
Neither of which is the best outcome.

Where's Fraudulent Farage? Has he shown his head over the parapet yet?
There's some justice in the fact that the Tories seem to want to exclude him from the negotiations gravy train that no doubt he was counting on to fund his alcoholism.
