i do an hour in the car each way, on a decent route not too much traffic

I could probably stretch to 90mins daily commutes if I had too but not 5 days a week

used to do 2hrs + each way when I first started contracting but that when I had no other choice

starting out early makes a big difference to traffic flows, even 10-15 mins sometimes you notice a significant difference in the number of cars on the road

Yeah my gig ended in Jan so had to take whatever they were giving me as things were slow. now they want to extend and I'm thinking i'll be looking around this time and hopefully hop somewhere closer.

Max I've ever done was an hour 15 mins working 4 days. Door to door, bit of walking and train. That was fine.

Currently it's 15 mins train and 10 mins or so walking then I walk home which is an hour.

Getting up to 90 minutes I probably won't do it for long.

I regularly do home to London 2.5 hours each way. I make sure that the client agrees late start and early finishes on the basis that I get work done on the train but it really depends on who Im working with and the rate. Most of the roles I have had tend to work well if I am in the office Monday - Wednesday then Work at home the rest of the time.

Which in the UK is equivalent to 15-20 mins by slow car

Depends on things like family situation and also how old you are.

For me, over an hours drive each way would knacker me too much. Also, with young kids, I want to see them each night (which is why I dont do mon-fri gigs).

Current gig is 90 mins each way door to door (15 mins drive, 50 mins train, 20 mins walk). Long day but you do get used to it. Early start is better (5-45am out of bed) but I'm home by just after 6pm mostly. BUT wouldn't work if I had a client who expected loads of extra hours for free.

I do stay over occasionally, if I know I've got out of hours stuff to do or just to give myself a rest one night.

After a year or so I'm trying to get one day WFH for next extension. That would be golden....

Of course, with 5 days long commute, its hassle for things like GP, Dentist. One day per week = sorted.
