ps. the number of times I've heard people whining about the EU not allowing us to do one thing or the other, and it's generally complete nonsense (i.e. squarely within the remit of local or national UK gov't and nothing to do with the EU). The general public are woefully uninformed about the scope and influence of the EU (in part, from the tabloid press), and this is a battle of appearance more than reality. While I believe the general public are uninformed, they aren't stupid, and I do think that, in the event of brexit, it would be much tougher to create the appearance that all the minutia everyone hates originates in the EU. The reality is that we have a local and national legislature that vastly over-reaches itself and uses the EU as cover. On the flip side, the EU does actually suck, so the argument for brexit cuts in both directions.
