ps. the number of times I've heard people whining about the EU not allowing us to do one thing or the other, and it's generally complete nonsense (i.e. squarely within the remit of local or national UK gov't and nothing to do with the EU). The general public are woefully uninformed about the scope and influence of the EU (in part, from the tabloid press), and this is a battle of appearance more than reality. While I believe the general public are uninformed, they aren't stupid, and I do think that, in the event of brexit, it would be much tougher to create the appearance that all the minutia everyone hates originates in the EU. The reality is that we have a local and national legislature that vastly over-reaches itself and uses the EU as cover. On the flip side, the EU does actually suck, so the argument for brexit cuts in both directions.

Yep, which is why they (Tories) should have never run referendum because either result will be terrible for them...Originally posted by jamesbrown View PostThe reality is that we have a local and national legislature that vastly over-reaches itself and uses the EU as cover. It's great, isn't it?Originally posted by AtW View PostYep, which is why they (Tories) should have never run referendum because either result will be terrible for them...
They must look back with melancholy to those days of yore when shooting the UKIP fox was more important than the remote possibility of a Tory majority.

What Chinese are doing is not investment. It is a profitable(for them) deal that ensures the UK will need them for ever.Originally posted by AtW View PostIn fact I need to correct it - being outside of EU would make China a lot less interested in UK as they would be unable to bribe UK Govt to influence EU policy in the interests of China...
So China will invest somewhere else instead, say Poland?
They can f00k off.Comment
