Also, my last role, prior to contracting, I was paid 15K, whilst studying and working in IT.
This went on for quite a number of years.

I then got a contract for £350 PD and didn't look back.
That was 16 years ago.

Personally, in the greater scheme of things, I'm doing alright; and that's been through hard graft, sacrifice, and being smart. But many friends and family are finding it pretty dam tough.

True, hard graft and sacrifice is required, there are plenty, on here, that have taken that route.

As I said, IMO, you are doing very well.
Try and "smell the roses", along the way, otherwise you will end up disappointed with life and eternally bitter.
