True my reaction when I saw it was oh look what an "accident". There's a long history of leaks from various Government Departments and agencies this looks like another one.

Additionally why would the author have the Guardian email address unless he/she emails the newspaper frequently?

Of course they would be negligent if they weren't considering the options and implications after a vote on EU membership.

And wasn't it the same 'business leaders' who said the sky would fall down in Britain didn't join the Euro?

I think it's fairly safe to say that business, like most of the populace, is pretty divided on it, as what happens afterwards will depend on what kind of government comes into power, which is reflected in the findings of think tanks on the matter, including the fearmongers. What a lot of business wants is renegotiation because they don't like the level of red tape the EU brings with it, they just want access to the free trade zone. We'll see if the rest of Germany's elite takes Schauble's more conciliatory tone. I quite like the bloke. Shame about the rest of them.

Greece will bring the whole 'project' to its knees. I just wonder how much exposure our bailed out banks have to Greek debt or to other banks holding Greek debt. If Greece were not a danger, the EU would have booted them out long ago. The fact the EU are constantly applying sticking plasters to Greece goes to show how desperate the EU are to prevent a Greek default and Grexit.

I doubt that it's Greece and the financial exposure to that country which is driving the behaviour, it's far more likely that they're concerned that if one leaves it will start a domino effect and end the EU completely.

Their opinion seems pretty split on that, e.g. Schauble thinks they can eject Greece without a hitch, and would like the Greeks to hold a referendum on the issue. The other risk is that they kowtow to their demands and then the rest of the periphery (and maybe France) expects the same treatment; it's not just Germany which will have to cough up, but several periphery countries as well. That being said, I think they're going to bail them out in the end, but only after much drama to show they've been "tough". They'll end up lending them money to repay this debt to keep up the pretence it is being paid off.

British exposure to Greek debt is supposedly minimal. The other thing is, even if it were not, Britain has its own central bank and isn't reliant on the ECB to take any action regarding such issues.

I watched a program last night on You Tube, it was Portillo in Greece. Although a few years old, I thought it very good. Really showed how Germany called the shots with regards to Greece.

Despite all the crap the Greeks were going through, all of them when asked by Portillo chose the Euro over the Drachma. What struck me was how the Euro project elite seemed to have a dislike of British Euro-sceptics. I hear and see the same thing in this country, as soon as one questions the European project one is then labelled a Xenophobe or right wing. Rather similar to the Climate Change stuff, when someone questions 'the science' they are immediately labelled as a 'denier'. The purpose being to shut down the debate by putting the Climate Change sceptic up there with Holocaust Deniers. Same applies to this EU nonsense, those 'for' want the debate immediately shut-down hence the emotive labels: 'xenophobe', 'racist' etc.
