Min = Max
I think you'll find also that the min wage is also the norm or maximum one. If left to the employer, I agree that the average would be a lot less but the best people would have got what they deserved, ie more. Now they are hampered by the egalitarian principle. Not forgetting that min wage doesn't apply to any cash-in-hand or black economy jobs which seem to have multiplied since the introduction of it. I think Gordon brought it to simplify PAYE/NIC at the bottom end of the market and also increase tax revenues, not for the benefit of the low-paid workers, n'est pas ?
