    Anyway, even if they stopped flights to and from Liberia, Nigeria and so on, that doesn't stop infected people travelling; they just get a connecting flight instead. The real air hub in Africa is Nairobi, and miraculously, they're tightening up their checks;

        That's nothing - One of the contractors at clientco, a French guy, has elected to take a two week holiday in Liberia or somewhere in West Africa. I forget the exact country.

        I always thought he was a weirdo. Also he had a hacking cough for months and months, despite not smoking, so it could have been something like TB, and now to cap it all the nutcase is off to what is probably practically a war zone to catch a dose of ebola.

Reason.....she was flying with SAA, ok Ebola may noy be airbourne, however SAA fly to Liberia etc, so you happen to get sneezed on by a passenger arriving into joBurg on an SAA flight, or be on a plane that was on a Liberia sector previously and use the same Loo as someone with Ebola, or a baggage handler loaded an Ebola infected bag etc....

          I suspect a lot of people now cancelling trips might be more convinced of visiting the SA area if some airlines had decided not to put their planes at risk and also passengers who could come into contact with an infected passenger from an affected area.

          I mean really....how many pandemic movies do these companies need to have seen to appreciate travel needs to be restricted. Nice to see BA and Emirates stopped flights pretty much immediately, responsible...not greedy...

              what an intelligent statement. The rest of this post is not directed at you as you seem to have nothing to add to this debate, other than childish name calling.

              I havent heard a good argument as yet, to why SAA continue to fly to Ebola infected areas and transit people back to a non-ebola affected area. Local economics is one, however risking a Pandemic is a pretty good argument against that. British Airways and Emirates obviously have it totally wrong. I get they need to fly cargo, but this is now a quarantined area so any fare paying passenger trips should be halted.

              someone in SAA needs to have a rethink, they have now got swathes of tourists cancelling flights; Ebola Virus Outbreak 2014: Tourists Cancel Trips to Africa : News : Headlines & Global News I would imagine them continuing flights to such areas is not helping fear. All comes down to how risk averse you are, J'burg is already dangerous enough.

              I do love the reference in the CNN article as recommended by the WHO, that crew are to keep anyone suspected isolated from other passengers and wear disposable gloves. Brilliant, what if they have just managed to implode in the aircraft loos! Someone boarding at Jo'burg and flying to Heathrow could develop symptoms in the 10 hours it takes to get to London.

              "The concern that people are going to get on these flights and fly from West Africa, where these cases are, to anywhere in the world is ... a real possibility," said Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN's chief medical correspondent.

                I have been sending emails to Nigeria
                'Dear friend,
                a relative of mine has died leaving me 6 million ampules of ebola vaccine.
                I need someone to help me get it out of the country..........'
