Americas oil production is booming and they are considering lifting the embargo on exporting oil for the first time in decades.
As someone here said recently, now they are awash with oil its only a matter of time before they invade themselves

This is now established (Putin visited Brazil last month to sign some papers) - although you might have missed that in the news.

- Russia now plans to build Glonass navigation stations in Nicaragua.
- It wants to become a security guard to "protect against possible provocations" for the Chinese-led project of a canal between the Pacific and the Atlantic across Nicaragua
- It is looking at investing in bankrupt Argentina including the signing of a peaceful nuclear power deal. Russia will help in areas such as design, operation and decommissioning of old nuclear power plants. This will also see Russian atomic energy corporation Rosatom tender for the construction of two nuclear power plants in Argentina.
- in Cuba, Putin signed a new agreement on oil exploration in Caribbean waters which contain most of the estimated 124 million barrels of the Island’s crude
- wrote off 90 percent of Cuba’s $32 billion soviet era debt putting the remaining 10 percent in investment of joint infrastructure projects in the island.
- in Brazil at the BRICS (2) summit he signed the document to create the $100 billion BRICS Development Bank and a reserve currency pool worth another $100 billion along with Brazil, India, China and South Africa (3)
- also in Brazil he signed a memorandum of understanding between Rosatom and Brazil’s Camargo Correa, which envisions the construction of a nuclear power plant and a spent fuel storage facility in Brazil.

Funny that as there seems to be less and less of that in Russia these days!

That's not quite right. These things take time. You're right that they started plotting a course 10 years ago but also these nations hold vast currency reserves in dollars. So to switch would cause a panic in the markets and ensuing dollar collapse. China would simply not have allowed this.

They have had to work together (BRICS) to form their version of the world bank. This is now established (Putin visited Brazil last month to sign some papers) - although you might have missed that in the news.
