Plane spotters on the perimeter fences have been using the mobile app for ages to know which planes are about to land/take off.

I only use it to track flights my close relatives are on, honest

What stage are you at with your training and what type are you flying? Before the eyes went I was flying 3 axis microlights mainly an Ikarus C42, no transponder or artificial horizon and the construction was so light it didn't paint on radar Not clever flying between two control zones and mostly in the busiest air corridor in Scotland. Even the gliders flying around Glenrothes have transponders and I can see them on the site.

I sat on the perimeter wall at Farnborough today... Including invoicing time. Airbus A380, Hercules and some tasty fast jets practising and the Airbus and Hercules aerobatics were quite impressive.

Got my GST next Wednesday (fingers crossed!)

And those damn things are stopping me from completing my 10 hours of mandatory solo flights - my home airfield is 5 miles from Farnborough, and they don't want student pilots turning the wrong way and ending up skewered on the nose of a Tornado fighter
