    Actually you can use it in court if you play your hand correctly. Partly because employers do record employees in such meetings and people know this goes on.

    If you are careful not to tell your own solicitor and only point out in the court room to the judge when the evidence is questioned that you did record it, then it can change things especially if you state in your transcript the other party was speaking in a threatening or sneaky manner.

      My understanding is that you may secretly tape a private conversation for your own use (but IANAL & ICBW). It is illegal to publish the recording without consent from the other party - *unless* publishing is in the public interest, which the Judge can rule if it will show the other party is lying in their evidence to court.

      I'm not sure how this helps the OP though? If a company wants to bin somebody then they will eventually find a way. Obviously somebody in there values the OP otherwise there wouldn't be the request to stay on. It sounds like a potential future client.

      IMHO just take the £30k lump sum tax free, and part on good terms.
