I've met agents four times.
1 - already in a contract, she took me to lunch to see how I was getting on.
2 - bumped into one I'd spoken to over the phone at UKOUG. He happened to be sitting in front of me when I asked an awkward question of the presenter (who I knew
) and we got chatting for a bit. Got me a contract three months later, but I'm certain there's no connection between the two.
3 - deliberately sought out another agent at UKOUG because she was buying the drinks. Got a drink, never got any work though.
4 - 90 minute pseudo-interview for a permie role that I really fancied, again at UKOUG (can you see a trend?). Company shifted direction, though, so no offer. Still keep in touch though when I'm looking.
I also get invites to a few Christmas drinks from agencies, but since they are normally in London after I've stopped for Christmas, I'm yet to make one.

I was thinking since as contracts dried up where I am at the moment, might as well try something like that. But if its not a free dinner, than "Im too busy!". Cheers guys for the response!
