Not Whinnig
The market currently requires agencies but this dependancy could change in future.Originally posted by DodgyAgent View PostYou can whine all you like but the market requires agencies whether you like it or not. If it did not and you guys were capable of marketing yourselves then we would not exist.
Over the last six months I have received about 20% of all inquiries
from Linkedin (non agency related).
We are capable of marketing ourselves as Linkedin has proved.
The normal chain is IT contractor- Umbrella/Limited- agency- Consultancy-
Client.
Clients don't like dealing direct with contractors however the newer consultancies do.Comment

if the market changes and "linkedin" becomes the new medium (do hiring managers really have time to trawl through social/business network sites?) then so be it.Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyoneComment

I haven't really bothered with LinkedIn but signed up to track someone down and now have 3 or 4 previous hiring managers in my network. I'm guessing they are more likely to contact me directly in the future but !? I found this job directly with a repeat client but had to go the agent route anywayOriginally posted by DodgyAgent View Postif the market changes and "linkedin" becomes the new medium (do hiring managers really have time to trawl through social/business network sites?) then so be it.

Hiring managers no, but someone in the outsourced Purchasing departmentOriginally posted by DodgyAgent View Postif the market changes and "linkedin" becomes the new medium (do hiring managers really have time to trawl through social/business network sites?) then so be it.
in India, yes. Yes, some companies already have outsourced Purchasing departments that don't deal with agents.
Social/business network group sites are becoming more job specific ie
Frankfurt SAP FICO Consultant group.
London Oracle group.
This is where the agencies find us so why not the outsourced Purchasing departments.Comment

Technology is moving on. In the future, agents will be as redundant as that other famous blood sucker, the medicinal leech.Originally posted by Brussels Slumdog View PostThe market currently requires agencies but this dependancy could change in future.

Now where have I heard that before? I'm sure I've come across that somewhere else, have they ripped off one of their competitor's sites?

You appear to enjoy telling us that. But if UK IT contracting were to completely crash, where would that leave agencies? How reliant are you guys on the income from contractors?Originally posted by DodgyAgent View Postunfortunately the same cannot be said of your jobs
