2 Post ad on jobserve as contractors already on data base seen as the easy option. who is stupid enough to use the long winded approach?
5 Don't contact contractors who have previously worked for you as that would establish loyalty. Remember your loyality is with the client not the contractor. You are damned right it is
6 Reject good contractors who won't work for the lowest rate. "if that is what the client wants that is what he gets"8 Pick your chosen contractor will work for the lowest rate.
if the client wants cheap then so be it

The market currently requires agencies but this dependancy could change in future.
Over the last six months I have received about 20% of all inquiries
      from Linkedin (non agency related).
We are capable of marketing ourselves as Linkedin has proved.
The normal chain is IT contractor- Umbrella/Limited- agency- Consultancy-
      Client.
Clients don't like dealing direct with contractors however the newer consultancies do.

No the client wants the best person for the job and the agent wants the
        highest commission.

No the client wants the most suitable person for the job at the right price and you are quite right about the agent.

if the market changes and "linkedin" becomes the new medium (do hiring managers really have time to trawl through social/business network sites?) then so be it.

I haven't really bothered with LinkedIn but signed up to track someone down and now have 3 or 4 previous hiring managers in my network. I'm guessing they are more likely to contact me directly in the future but !? I found this job directly with a repeat client but had to go the agent route anyway

Hiring managers no, but someone in the outsourced Purchasing department
in India, yes. Yes, some companies already have outsourced Purchasing departments that don't deal with agents.
Social/business network group sites are becoming more job specific ie
              Frankfurt SAP FICO Consultant group.
              London Oracle group.
This is where the agencies find us so why not the outsourced Purchasing departments.

Technology is moving on. In the future, agents will be as redundant as that other famous blood sucker, the medicinal leech.

We always deliver our services ahead of time. By outsourcing product development services to O2I, you can benefit from cost-effective services at a fast turnaround time.

Now where have I heard that before? I'm sure I've come across that somewhere else, have they ripped off one of their competitor's sites?

You appear to enjoy telling us that. But if UK IT contracting were to completely crash, where would that leave agencies? How reliant are you guys on the income from contractors?
