Or rather, give them the youtube URL so they know it's out there (having first written an automated script to get the download count up nice and high).

I told Una O'Kane of Huxley Associates back in 2006 (she has since moved on, you can find her on LinkedIn if you care that much) that I could take a contract on the other side of the country because I will relocate. She would not have it. I explained some of us contractors simply move to where the work is. She said she had never heard of such a thing and that she thought I was lying. She demanded to know my family's circumstances; I explained my wife works from home. She said I was making all this up. So I said "suit yourself, hire a local" and hung up.

So she rang back to call me a liar. I explained again and told her to look at my CV: I had been all over the place. She called me a liar. I hung up.

She called me back again and said I was a liar. I hung up.

My mobile rang; I answered: it was her and she said I was a liar. I hung up.

My mobile rang: I switched it off.

The land line rang again, my wife answered and my wife explained to this loony why I had hung up on her. She called my wife a liar; my wife suggested she ought not to do telephone calls when suffering from PMT; loony tune then hung up on my wife.

        Then the emails started.

I started reading the first one, got angry and so I just set up a block on her email address so they bounced before I saw them. I know a couple or three got auto-bounced.

        Presumably, recruitment can be stressful.

(Maybe that's why Una has two LinkedIn accounts; one with her name the wrong way round. )

(Happy to name and shame since I keep a log of all my applications; I have the dates and details and everything. It was 05/10/2006.)

Next time I see a guy selling a Big Issue (and he could be me soon..) I'll tell him - there's always someone worse off than yourself.

I would love to state who it is but i'm not totally conviced that I would be protected by the law if the agent in question decided to sue for defamation. He does have my personal details after all.

Can anybody here confirm if using a voicemail in this way is ok?

                  First off, classic.

I would say that there is no problem as he left you the message. If it is OK to publish Prince Charles talking about how he wants to be a tampon then I don't see why you cannot publish the name of someone who left you a message.

I'm pretty sure I know that voice.

The funny thing is if I do, I deem him to be a very good guy and I've worked for him three times.

Shows you how tough the markets been for the last 3-6 months.

Speaking as an ex-newspaper hack who had to study defamation etc at journo college, I'd say you're pretty safe in naming names...assuming you haven't fabricated the recording.

He called you and left that message on your voicemail knowing it was being recorded.

He's implicated himself - you've not published anything that he could say tarnishes his reputation - which is basically what defamation is about - because he did it on his own. I don't see any implied trust on your part to keep this verbal attack a secret.

All seems pretty watertight to me.
