i do .NET 'stuff', am in contract until mid March 2009 so I count myself lucky (public sector so unlikely for contract to be cut short since the budget has been signed off)

market seems quiet. my phone doesn't ring much and when it does, it's fishing or permie jobs.

plan B (and plan C) going well so hopefully by March it will matter a bit less

      good luck to everyone looking..

I'm set until the end of Jan 09, then the clients are making rumblings about taking on a permie after that. I also have cash put away just in case things go sideways then, but hopefully the market will have picked up by then.

        Hopefully!

There's no shame in going permie during a downturn - it sure beats spending your savings on groceries and gas bills. But just make sure in your mind you don't get trapped. I treated my permie stint as a contract, and I only had to give a week's notice in the first year of it, so it was easier to leave then a contract.

            Hi,
have been on the bench since the start of September. Which is how I came to discover this site.
Things seem very quiet on the BI front at the mo, but there are some permie jobs around, a couple more weeks and I may go for one.

Am getting a bit fed up of all the fishing expeditions I'm being subjected to, but I guess its a necessary evil.

However the weather up here in the North West has been rather good so every cloud eh....?

I'm sorry, but I'll make no apologies for this

Been on the bench for 2 weeks, but there's plenty around in my public sector cushioned area of health. Alos, My expertise is in the business side and I can apply it in different types of projects - I.T. and non I.T. I expect to be back in contract within 2 weeks, but who knows...

My PM contract with a city bank expires in March next year. My job is currently being advertised internally as a permanent role and I have been offered first refusal to take it as a permie.

Gut feel is to stick out contract and see what happens.

Too risky or go for the safe option ?

That's a frustration for me, there are loads of NHS roles near me that I could easily do, the one thing I lack from their requirements is prior NHS experience.

I'll find an interesting gig soon, my problem is boredom rather than a shortage of funds.
