Just got this through on Email, how blatant can you get?

      Hi XXXXXXX,

      I hope you are well.

I wanted to keep you updated with relevant positions in your area and also pro-actively look for role suitable for you.

Can you please update me on your situation.

How long have you been looking?
Job Titles of roles applying for...
How many interviews have you had?
      Company name...
      Manager who interviewed you...

I will contact you on response.

I mean, come on, at least dangle a made up job infront of me I might be interested in. This is just lazy!

You should reply to the email, and for company name, just provide the names of big recruitment companies, like Hays, Reed, etc.....let him try and call them asking if they are hiring

slightly different variation on this today that I've not had before.

Call from agent, news of good role, decent rate, client I'd like to work for, does it sound good to you etc.

Yep, says I, we agree rate, says they'll email confirmation later. Email received saying CV sent. They also ask that I agree to them being my sole rep for the contract. I agree, subject to them stating they have actually sent the CV etc, no guarantee I know, but they agree.

Now today an email looking for the 2 references. Nothing to do with "before we submit you". Supposedly just for their files.

First time I've had this variation - no problem submitting me, and asking for them after they have supposedly done it.

              *sigh*

So, seriously, where is the problem that leads to your "*sigh*"??

All you do is email back with either your last two client's HR department contact details and/or agency contacts. All perfectly legit and above board.

It sounds pretty straight to me. I like to hold reference details so that if we go to offer stage (or the client requests them) I can quickly get them across.

Plus if for whatever reason this role doesn't pan out for you, this agent now has those ref details to hand so you will not be asked for them again.

                  ADA,

it's not exactly difficult to read the 2 companies names from my CV, look up the phone number, and phone HR themselves?

If it's a specific HR person you mean, then I do not have those, I rarely deal with HR. And if I thought that would satisfy the agent, I'd be happy to collect HR names/number and pass them on.

But, it's always your manager's name, what position did he/she hold etc.

that is where the *sigh* comes from.

Edit: only just noticed, you, an agent, suggesting I pass on an agency contact as a reference?! I thought it was only contractor's that did that to wind you lot up!

Obviously this doesn't apply in your particular case Another Dodgy Agent, but after the Agent has had the referees contact details for a while the referee will contact the contractor and threaten him/her with brutal mutillation if they ever meet again as a consequence of being spammed to hell by the Agents.

I made the mistake of giving references to an Agent over 10 years ago and as a result the referees made it very clear that they were not to be contacted under any circumstances nor would any further contracts be coming my way because of the Agent hassle.

Sorry to hear that TykeMerc, bloody crappy agents!

I have to admit that I relish the day I retire from recruitment!
