I can go to work, feek lousy but earn lots...
Bit of a no brainer really
As to contracting or not, it wasnt just about the money for me (ok quite a large part of it was ) - it was also about flexiblity, feeling in control of my own affairs, knowing that if a gig was a bit duff then I'd be out of there in a few months and doing something else, plus exposure to lots of different fields. I always tended to get a bit bored staying in one place for a long time.
In the end (and I should have done it 10 years earlier really) I dumped a very easy role on 45k with better than usual bens, took a couple of months off to chill and put my CV on the net... 4 days later I had a nice local contract were I'm currently hacking Java and getting paid to learn Unix
Lifes good...
