Finishing my current contract within the next few weeks and have had my cv go forward to four companies this week without getting round to uploading it to Monster/Jobserve yet. May be skillset variances or location making a difference.

Just something I observe in the companies I'm working in.
Just had an e-mail from one of the good Rec Consultants in my area who sends out his weekly e-mail with info etc. Been a busy week for him but it's mostly permanent and has been for past several weeks.
I'm currently still on a contract, but the only sporadic calls and e-mails I'm getting from agencies are for permanent roles too. Some of the positions offered have been very high end salary too.
Seems to me that the economy is picking up & so clients are now more willing to look long term and take on permanent at the moment.Comment

I don't think the market is quiet
I have anticipated not my current clientco not extending me again so rather than wait till Nov to be told my contract is up in Dec, I started looking on Monday. Next day for the whole week I am flooded with calls and have an offer which I may accept (great location, good role etc., but rate is slightly below what my market is but still a high rate objectively speaking).Comment

Talking to agents they say the market is a lot quieter than normal at this time of year. Market has not really picked up since schools went back as everybody seems to think it should. The area I work in is software testing so might not be the same for other roles. Test Manager contracts seem to be pretty much non-existent nowadays also.
I have been contracting for 16 years and just had 3 weeks bench time (first time ever I have been benched). The role I am in now is a rubbish rate but is local and could be long term.
My attitude towards contracting has certainly changed over the last year or so. It certainly is a lot harder to get roles nowadays unless you have niche skills. The rates are also getting lower all the time. So much so I am seriously thinking of going permie as I don't see contracting being that rewarding anymore not when you consider all the stress and hassle.
I intend to give it more time to see if things improve but I am not confident it will ever go back to how it was.Comment

I know of one so called blue chip financial co in the north east using accidenture to do a lot of their project work. Accidenture had a staff of 15 based offshore in far east asia to do the testing. They brought another 5 of them onshore. Im told the quality of work is 'variable' to say the least.
Then you have agencies selling their 'contractor-permie' model to clients saving them money and paying the 'contractor' piss poor rates.I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!Comment
