Clearly, buying something as a company expense for your child isnt allowable. However, the OP's accountant is saying he can make a case for the ipod as a company expense and defending it by highlighting company use.

The accountant isnt saying 'yes, its ok to put the expense for the child's ipod through your company.'

I mean really, come on, we've all bought a laptop etc as a company expense and use the same lappie for own personal use. Hardly anyone will separate the business and personal use out to a great deal after 6 months use if at all.

When I told my accountant I just said I had used the wrong card and how to rectify the situation. They have take it as I was buying it for myself and as such could be possible.

So you ended up with Montpellier, you say? Isn't the lesson that you should do the right thing rather than something that you make a case to defend?

          Behave yourself man.

His accountant isnt saying buy the ipod for your kid as a business expense. She's telling the OP he can make a business case out for him buying it through the company and defending it in the accounts. What he does in reality is up to him.

Some people are being far too anal.

LOL! Being with MontP was subjective at the time and I direct you to the thread regarding that subject. Plus it has nothing to do with this thread.

Well there you go, like what I suggested.

No doubt the moral indignation from some will carry on though

No way is an IPod an allowable expense. If you work on the premise that something could be used for business purposes, you could justify practically anything

If it's not - what is the BIK on it?

What a breath of fresh air...

Bolshie saying what happens in practice rather than preaching the HMRC way.

Can you of course you can...is it within the letter and spirit of the law - is it bollock.
Is it worth the risk - that's up to you - but £210 isn't going to set anyones heart racing.

If local goverment departments can legitimately buy 100's of iPads for staff just to burn up budget then I think you could argue that you bought the Touch to study with whilst commuting to work etc.

Right I'm off to check my log book to ensure that my cycle to work bicycle has been used for at least 60% of the time for commuting before I go out for a spin at the weekend....seeesh.
