    Definitely best to come clean to all the powers that be and do whatever it takes to get your company's affairs in order and appoint a new accountant asap - preferably a firm of credible accountants rather than a one man band

      Just for balance, its worth remembering that "one man bands" can also be very credible and most of the larger firms started out as one man bands. Size is no guarantee of quality or reliability.
