Theres a long wait for passports though - maybe 10 year backlog.
If people leave without paying they won't be able to come back as
they'll be arrested at the airport - right?

To some people who cant pay, it wouldnt make a blind bit of difference if they had a 100% penalty for evasion, they cant pay anyway. But boy what an upside if you get away with it! Good luck to them IMHO.

What Gauke et al Im sure are very much aware of is that they will absolutely push a percentage of the population to take tax avoidance underground and dont declare DOTAS numbers or even the income on their SA's, which in real terms then becomes evasion.
      Hindsight is a wonderful thing!
I agree with your closing statement, they are killing DOTAS off and pushing schemes underground in order to further blur the line between avoidance and evasion, eventually to make it dissapear altogether.
It is perverse, but very strategic - and in line with the whole PR campaign by the Gov and Treasury in the past few months.

I don't think that's quite how it works...
Unless not complying with an APN or FN is now making one a criminal case, and I don't think we are there just YET.

I had a phone chat to someone at Tiger TV yesterday. NTRT arranged it. They are thinking about getting me in front of a camera. Hopefully they have better cases than me so I wont be used. But someone has to stand up.

I had to break off the phone call as I burst into tears talking about the affect it has had on my children.

I got asked how I feel towards HMRC. None of my reply will ever make it onto television.

Good on you Brillo .. you are a stand up guy ...given the serious angle guess you can't wear your Donkey Rhubarb t-shirt on tv

            Yip well done sir.

I'm also talking with Tiger Productions and have met with the director to discuss my story.

I've received another call this morning from them to make sure I was still on board.

            I MOST CERTAINLY AM!!

              And guess what?
HMRC saw your post and then tortured you until you told them who it was?

Not sure if I am being serious or joking.

It is certainly easy to understand the rationale behind NOT WANTING TO PAY ONE MORE PENNY into the coffers of HM Treasury after being on the receiving end of such a vicious bite. I am sure many will make such arrangements.

And frankly, with the ever increasing risk and instability of legislation in the UK, for many qualified and mobile professionals it will simply make more sense now to go sell their skills elsewhere.

I for one have made a decision not to generate any income in my name after this.

They can bankrupt me and go whistle after that.

You are right. They'd never admit it but they'd prefer there was only fraud and evasion.

Tax avoidance only accounts for a tiny fraction of the overall tax gap, yet it receives most of the attention.

I guess the problem is they can't hide tax avoidance from the public spotlight because it's disclosed to HMRC.
