Good news - Bob Stewart (Cons) said he'll write to Lin Homer....

Not so good news - from the tone of his response he doesnt appear to have looked at the submission doc and is not asking for an inquiry but just a status update.

    Its something i suppose..

Hi All, just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone in this mess for continuing the fight against HMRC's lies and deceit

Just to confirm, my MP is taking the time to read the complaint, and is writing to Lin Homer to request a thorough investigation.

Crispin Blunt has also agreed to write to Lin Homer.

Do I need to let someone at NTRT (George) know?

                  Autumn statement

So in the Autumn statement today, I've read that the chancellor is proposing that where HMRC believes tax is due, any disputed amount would be payable to HMRC in advance of any investigation/appeal process, to be returned on a successful appeal. Three main questions (of course there are many more):-

                  (i) does anyone know the details of this, to the degree that if it goes through, could this be applied to us?
(ii) how on earth can such a proposal not be considered illegal? It's guilty until proven innocent for heaven's sake.
(iii) is this something that NTRT are/should be aware of as it potentially as damaging as what we are currently fighting!

                  Swede.

if HMRC had done this in 2001, then I guess it would have avoided the mess we are in now. I would have had a manageable tax bill in 2001/02 and probably reverted to Ltd company with IR35 insurance. However, if you combine this with retrospective changes to laws then it would give a freighting amount of power to civil servants who are willing to mislead MPs. So in 2008 (or at some point in the future) I will be made bankrupt, lose home (along with wife and children) all without being able to challenge it in a court. If that doesn't go against my human rights then I wonder what would.

So in the case where someone being bankrupted by a demand HMRC still pursue collection. Then what happens if the taxpayer wins? Bankrupted for no reason, what a load of tosh!
