I got Plan B co. a £150 fine recently for being late with the accounts, because I well, forgot. My fault entirely, though I did feel £150 for being 2 weeks late was a little harsh. But them's the rules, and it has to be said that I had 9 months to sort it out before the deadline.

But you absolutely don't need bank statements to do the Co. House annual return or the corporation tax return (I've done the latter today). I can only assume your accountant was relying on using the bank statements as a way of piecing everything that had happened over the year in the absence of any other records, but that doesn't strike me as a good way of running a business. Even if they did, they shouldn't have had any problem with an internet banking print out.

If there's a moral to this story it's about the foolishness of leaving everything to the last minute.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.
