    Paye & Vat

    Dear Friends
update on progress .. April is here and my VAT & PAYE returns all due.

    PAYE
    -----
I have this evening managed to submit forms via HMRC online:

    P11D(b)
    P14
    P35

I found the HMRC PAYE site pretty good, only my lack of experience with it slowed me down.

The speadsheats had pretty much all the info I needed to complete the forms, but the P14 was the trickiest as not all field names (1a to 1f) matched up quite exactly with the spreadsheet P14, but still I figured it out eventually.

    VAT
    ------
Th online VAT return was easy enough, and submitted no problem. I am not entirely sure the payment will go out via direct debit, there doesn't seem to be a page displaying VAT direct debit details. I have emailed HMRC to confirm they have my ltd co bank details.

All the above took me a about 4 hrs .... I had allready done a good deal of the ground work some time last month ... creating payslips... logging expenses etc.

Quite pleased to get over those hurdles especially the PAYE bit as that was all new and a bit scary to me.

Should be quiet for a while now ...

    Email Reminders
    ----------------
By the way I get email reminders from businesslink.co.uk telling me when if I need to do something soon - this is very handy indeed.

    have a nice day

Can anyone recomend software that will do majoroty of the work for me - companies house reports etc.
zedAccounts works out your CT, VAT and PAYE, handles Flat Rate VAT and produces end-of-year accounts that can be submitted to Companies House and as part of your Corporation Tax return.

      QB.

        Hi QwertyBerty

        that looks interesting
can you tell us if ZAccounts will:

?run your Payroll; ie produce payslips for you.

        ?Produce P11D

        ?P14

?how is your data stored? (MS Acccess database or other?)

?What is the support like? is there a connected community of users?

        Thanks

          Hi brigzy,

?run your Payroll; ie produce payslips for you.

zedAccounts is designed to keep accounts, not as a payroll system.

I recommend you use the free HMRC Employer CD to manage employees' PAYE. Each employee's basic pay, NIC and income tax are then entered into zedAccounts' salary ledger.

The HMRC Employer CD handles your P14s, P35.

          ?Produce P11D

          Nope.

?how is your data stored? (MS Acccess database or other?)

It is stored as an encrypted file.

?What is the support like? is there a connected community of users?

I'm happy to answer any Qs here or via the website. The software was only released last week, and depending on its uptake, I may set up a dedicated forum for it.

          QB.

Wow, that's some quite blatant spamming.

<mod> not now it isn't, thanks for the nod, Vallah... </mod>

              Hi All,

Just a quick nod towards the forum terms and conditions. No placing of links please. Products can be searched for using your favourite search engine.

              Cheers,

To be sure QB the DIY Accounts forum http://forums.teneric.co.uk/diy-accounting/ was big factor for me.. there is a whole community of people helping each other for free with advice & sharing experiences, plus of course replies from DIY Accounts themselves. Whilst companies may offer support, I and perhaps others may agree, the first place I go for help is the net forums.

I think you will more likely get the uptake you want by getting this right ... rather than uptake demanding that you set one up .... if thats makes sense!

Look forward to hearing from you..

                  Dear Admin
I started this useful thread specifically about Accounts software products, links to those products and our experiences with them, I am sorry but I think any such link restrictions should be ignored.

The link above was just to some small firm of accountants in Milton Keynes, with no sign of any accounting software whatsoever.

FWIW, I'd imagine that most contractors should be able to get by by just using a relatively simple Excel spreadsheet. The DIY accounts forum above is a good place to start.

Sorry about the links, I have been made aware of the T&Cs now

I take your point about the forum, brigzy, and will keep it in mind.
