BN66 is just a big misunderstanding

Alastiar Darling "will today move to reassure international businesses that Britain under Labour will not impose surprise tax changes on them".

So there's obviously nothing to worry about.

      Self Assessment ammount overdue

Has anyone else received a letter from the HMRC which starts off:

Nine out of ten UK citizens pay their Self Assessment tax on time, funding the public services that we benefit from…… etc etc

And that my case has been transferred to a HMRC office in Croyden to pursue the debt.

I will be forwarding to MP to deal with.

Had you previously received Closure Notices which Montpelier had appealed on your behalf?

Could be a procedural/admin error I suppose. Let's see if you are alone in getting one one of these letters.

Errr, and you paid your self assessment tax on time via MontP, to fund public services. Not sure why they'd make your case an issue. Have they forgotten that we do pay tax via SA or something? 9 out of 10. A rather convenient number. Sorry, forgot, under the new Social Policy rules, not only should you pay your SA on time, but you should pay more than you're obliged to so as to "fund" public services such as an obese public sector, lousy trains, poor roads, lazy lards on benefit...... etc etc

Probably a clerical error as I can't imagine HMRC trying to get your presumed liability moved forward. Quite right to forward to MontP. We all need to police any such matters so this doesn't become accepted practice.

Even HMRC are obliged to play by the rules........

You could be right, I'm hearing quite a bit about the incompetence within the HMRC . I'll ping it straight of to MP to see what they say, will keep you all posted.

                  Sa

that actually sounds like your SA didnt get filed and they are pursuing the SA monies due for 7/8. doesnt sound like anything to do with any CN's but I could of course be wrong

So if Alistair darling isnt going to impose any surprise taxes does that mean he will revoke the ones he's put in this year?

I like this quote, think it sums up the situation perfectly...

Mcbroon has taxed directly and indirectly to such an extent that many of the high tax payers have stopped paying. Either by down sizing or going abroad. One reads the comments “good riddance”, but where do these whiners think the money comes from?
Socialist governments always kill the goose, and seem unable to understand that people on above average incomes, earn their money, usually because they are above average intelligence.
So it ends up with the poor old labour voting, working class, who end up suffering when it al hits the buffers.
I am not talking bankers, just folk who earn 100K plus. When one ends up loosing up to half in excess tax, and other deductions, it becomes pointless working 50% for no benefit.
I personally take 12 to 14 weeks holiday a year. This gives me time to do all my own DIY, car servicing, etc. So I no longer employ any one to do these things for me. Nett effect, less work for other trades people, less spending and tax.
This is the knock on effect of excessive taxing.

                  this is good too!

So, big foreign business to get special treatment huh? I am shifting my company to Malaysia because I am sick of retrospective rules and broken promises about reducing red tape. In so doing I will be joining a happy band of other economic migrants. Of course, individually, we never offered the employment opportunities of big foreign business but combined our numbers are massively significant.

This economic favouritism for one sector is typical of the Labour .approach. Britain has become entirely hideous and unfair place in which to do business.

NW is a star. She has already investigated and it's another instance of the debt collectors being trigger happy and jumping the gun.

They will put back on their leash in the morning.

Do you think a suitable apology will be forthcoming?
