No, I don't think she has. The trouble is the Judge misread the survey.

57 people out of 2500 are screwed (2%)

      is a bit different to

      57 out of 92 (60%)

HMRC don't know how many people in total would lose their homes but they do know it's a damn sight more than 57!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        2003/4 - 35%
        2004/5 - 28%
        2005/6 - 21%
        2006/7 - 14%
        2007/8 - 6%

For example, if your tax/nic liability for 2001/2 was £10000, then the interest would be approximately £4800.
**** me! I wish montpelier had of told us to take out CTD's straight away instead of 'dont worry, we'll win' and not even mention a CTD!

They did tell me it was an option when my CNs arrived in the post .. which was just after the FA 08 was passed but of course by then i'd accumlated a couple of years interest at 8.5% .. or around there!

I have the means to pay (CTD, savings). I won't need to borrow money or sell my home. I could settle tomorrow but why would I until all avenues of appeal have been exhausted?

I don't know if I'm in the majority or the minority. But I do know that there are an awful lot of people who can't afford to pay.

If everyone was in my position I wouldn't be fighting as hard. In different circumstances that could have been me.
I am going to fold and go for bankruptcy, I was not in the MP scheme but 3 others who are not doing jack for me.

Got divorced a few years ago so don't have a house to worry about.

So wish you luck with this...I'm out.

To be fair, you could have matched 48% over the past 9 years in a savings account, ISA or by offsetting your mortgage.

DR, do you know how to arrange a CTD? Is there a link anywhere detailing how to do this? If so, could you put it on the first page?

I noticed there was an option on the gov gateway to 'pay on account' but this is different to a CTD methinks. And if we do win, I think them robbing buggars will be reluctant to pay money on account back.

                Thanks.

Just got my estimated exposure from Montpelier so I need to arrange this sometime soon.

                      Slightly unrelated question…

Can you take out a CTD now, to stop potential interest on a potential liability? Ie if your return is under query, but you haven’t received a Closure notice yet.
Almost like insurance against interest being added?
