Or if not, don't tell the former client what you're doing. I did once, and got a stroppy email about using their logo.

IIRC there was a case about a guy who was a supplier to Mars using their logo on his website without their permission. He was OK to use the words but not their trademarked logo.

Personally I just have the client name, as a link to their website

Why do you supply a past clients website?
What has ie Boots the chemist who sell pharma products got to do with your
IT skills unless their website mentions what a fab job you did for them.
Why would an agent or a client looking at your CV be interested in looking
at a past clients website?

I name the client ie BP so other oil companies know that I have worked in the
same sector.

Because I don't work in 'IT' in that way.

I develop the software that is inside the clients product, which they market from their site.
