Well done for the positive action, but do remember that Daniel Hannan is also a journalist. In earlier posts we discussed getting the journo's involved but eventually decided that it was risky as they could go against us as 'fat-cat tax dodgers'.

However, the retrospectiveness, the JCHR response and the pending ECHR could be enough to get him after Gordon's blood again.

My take is that from a JR and ECHR perspective, it is whether there has been a breach of legitimate expectation arising from issues with procedure and due diligence amongst others. Maybe we won't get anything back from DH, but this is about finding voices who will publicly and in an articulate way, challenge governments actions and place them under the glare of the public.

If DH delivered a speech questioning the issues raised over breaches to ECHR in the way he did about the state of the country, then it would chrystalise the issue and perhaps get more debate going in MP and MEP circles.

BTW, I rather like this quote:
"In war, it's not a question of who's right, but only who's left"

I'm a big fan of Daniel Hannan. His speech spread like wildfire around the world, but media attention was deliberately dampened down in the UK.

All the Americans I speak to think he should be Prime Minister and wish they had someone like him to challenge their politicians.

We cant lose anything by writing to him. Looking forward to seeing his reply.

Well his speech earned him a place on the Question Time panel for the European elections, on which he was equally impressive.

What this guy is doing in the backwaters of the Euro parliament when the Tory front bench is packed with second rate nonentities like Alan Duncan, Theresa May and Francis Maude, is beyond me.

            Well good news:

            http://uktaxplanning.blogspot.com/20...y-details.html

If you hide your money offshore and come forward and declare it before March next year, you get off lightly with only 10% penalty instead of 100%.

Cool. Shame you get clobbered if you'd always disclosed monies in a totally transparent way and get nailed with huge penalties for doing so.

So retrospectively, you get an amnesty if you declare your monies hidden in the past but not if you had never hidden monies in the past.

            I think it's called discrimination

sure is, Nu LAbour my ass...They hate small businesses, they want us to all be PAYE clones working for large corps to protect their tax receipts, small businesses are too volatile and have such a thing called tax planning (shock horror). Of course its total double standards, lots of MP's have business interests, they just think they can do it and we cant. Timm's who seems to have it in for freelancers and is doing his damndest to shut us down by any means possible, IR35 and now this.

Him and his buddies who own/have an interest in large consultancies see us as a right royal pain in the ass, we get in the way of them winning lucrative £1000 per day grad consultant placements....

                Hi

The thing about the amnesty is the small print where it says "of course, if we think that what you have done is really bad, after we have had a chance to look through everything, we can still decided that the amnesty doesn't apply to you and prosecute you if we feel like it".

If all you've done is not declare the tax earned on overseas investment then maybe the 10% will apply. For anything that might earn the tag "aggressive avoidance" I think not.

An amnesty with a get out clause is simply not an amnesty.

And yes, I agree, they don't like us pointing out that the "specialists" from the big 10 consultancy firms have mostly only just learned how to shave.

Dan "The Man" Hannan strikes again

Well love him or hate him, he'e been able to get a global debate fired up about the NHS.

I really do wonder what would happen if he went live on the topic of human rights and retrospective tax? If nothing else, it would be known to all and sunder. And if he pitched it just right and showed how this matter can affect everyone then there's a lot of good press in that.

BTW, he's been on hols so hoping I'll hear from him soon.

How did you contact him? Is he your MEP? I expect his inbox will be overflowing after the latest remarks.
