Or if its the date of payment - wouldn't the covering letter date or date of cheque indicate?

Yes, it's the date of payment. I don't know why they ask for this since they date the certificate from when they receive the cheque. I just dated the covering letter.

Hello from the Gang of Four

            Hi all...

Four more of us Montp dudes, we all used to contract at a large bank at Canary Wharf.

Trying to get some background on how widespread these schemes were and how many people were involved.

My Montpelier client nuber is well over 3,000 so presume there must be at least that number with them and countless more with other scheme operators such as Price Waterhouse and KPMG.

FYI, I understand that Bernard has just left Montpelier.

Very interesteed to see the post by SantacClause that the avoidance industry was told schemes such as these would be stopped and all back dated to 2004.

Was that put out in the market place, If so can anyone point me in the right direction to find reference to it

              We were certainly not notified.
              Hi, and welcome!

You are our very first property developer. Everyone else on the thread was in the Montpelier self-employed contractor scheme. We've also got a few contractors who were with another IoM firm DeGraaf.

Best estimates are that there were between 1500 and 2000 people in the MontP contractor scheme. I don't know the numbers for DeGraaf but would expect that to run into a few hundred. I wasn't even aware that MontP were operating a scheme for property developers. I knew PwC were involved because they made representations during the Committee stage of the Bill.

I imagine PwC and KPMG will be representing much larger clients, which means hopefully they will be bringing out the heavy artilery when it gets to court. In fact, I would expect it to be them rather than MontP who take this to Europe.

How long have you been under enquiry by HMRC? Do you know when the property schemes first started operating?

              Cheers
              DR

"I am therefore giving notice of our intention to deal with any arrangements that emerge in future designed to frustrate our intention that employers and employees should pay the proper amount of tax and NICs on the rewards of employment. Where we become aware of arrangements to frustrate this intention we will introduce legislation to close them down, where necessary from today." Quote from Paymaster General's Written Statement to Parliament of 2 December 2004.

So wait a minute, we are now all employees? Shades of IR35? Its hard to see how these words apply to our situation, unless of course Gordy comes up with some retrospective "clarification".

Is it true that Bernard has left MP, if so how will this affect our situation.

                  Cheers

I am not sure if he is left or is leaving. He had the chance to set up his own company.

I am guessing - but I wonder if he did not like the loan scheme? I know that I dont like it! I did get a letter from montp - but IMO it did not address one key question. How does it compare to other loan schemes(e.g. sanzar/dmz)?

I can't see how it affects the existing scheme - or am I missing something?
