Probably about time I made a contribution.....

Nice to hear all the postive comments and nice to know what we are doing has been appreciated.

We have always offered a free limited company to our clients on the basis that they use our services for at least 12 months, even then the charge is just £69.

We have a competitive fee that we feel is fair to all our clients, all clients affairs are supervised by a qualified accountant and the average length of service for our staff is over 7 years. (BTW when we started we were more expensive than SJD, who used to charge £30/month)

We have not yet put ourselves forward for various awards, we rely on our service to clients to do our marketing for us.

We have considered offering insurance packages and may do so in the future, but to be honest there has not been a great demand from clients for it. In anycase it is quite easy to arrange via the internet.

      Ooh

This looks like it could develop into a good thread...

In the Red corner for NW it's Alan
In the blue corner for SJD it's Simon

Now lads, good clean fight and get on with it.

        Hi Simon,

Yes, you are right in saying while choosing accountants, it is not just the price that needs to be considered. Not sure if you have picked up the fact that we (atleast me) had that analysis and that is when we ended up in a dillema between SJD & a few other accountants (Honestly it is NW & in somecases JSA). If it was just the price that we were considering there are a lot of other accountants that charge less than NW as well, but we are not even speaking about them. The point I am trying to make here is that the price is becoming a kind of decision factor when comparing two good quality accountants like SJD & NW. I definitely accept there are few things better with SJD than NW, that is what will be making us pay that extra £'s every month. So I dont comment about the monthly fee at all. But the comp formation fee is the one that I am not convinced.

        Cheers

Some accountants provide the incorporation free of charge and don't have a minimum contract period because they are confident of their service levels and don't expect to lose a client so soon

I think we are all paying too much if Alan and Simon can afford to post on CUK all day

                  Quality Vs Quantity

I am not with NW or SJD. I have private accountant whom I know via family. He is slightly expensive but I am OK with that. So my opinion is unbiased.

I did my own analysis, if I were to pick 1 which one would it be, I came to the conclusion NW and I have recommended 1 person to them who is jumping from brolie to LTD. I was not aware that they would pay me £60 as commision .

It did boil down to the fees and Co formation was free with NW. And this was not base on fees ONLY.

Now SJD is perfectly within his right to charge whatever he thinks is right for him. But his Co formation fees are too expensive. As suggested earlier in the post it only costs £25 to open 1 online, maybe they should outsource opening the Co with them and lower the over all cost.

I am sure all contractors would have weighed the service and the cost before deciding, and on many occasions it might have bolied down to the charges, if services are considered to be similar or same.

If the quality is deemed to be same then next big comparing factor would be quantity (money in this case).

Well I incorporated my Ltd. myself (£75 IIRC) and then appointed SJD?!?!?!

Go with Darren. He's cheap (ooer) and answers all your (my) idiot questions in minutes and gives good, easy to understand advice such as "Send this amount to the VAT man. Now".

Makes it much easier to devote time to fighting with the permies and chasing home users for unpaid invoices.
