Anywho, I paid the cowboys by BACS (yes, I know, I know), so trying to get it rectified it's going to cost another 4.5k to sort and this time (hey the brain cells have kicked in) I want to pay on credit card but new roofer only has Bank details, just spoke to my two cc companies there is no way of doing this.

Is there any way of insuring myself?

Essentially no. What you're talking about would technically be a 'money transfer' to a credit card company and seeing as it isnt your bank account the money is going to, I dont think they'd do it. Neither would a 'cash advance' cover you because once you got the cash, you arent covered for what you spend it on.

You'd either have to find a builder who takes credit card payments or one who'd accept payment via Paypal. Either case, pretty rare Id say.

No it wont because this billhop is an intermediary. It's the same with Paypal if you have cash in your PP account and use a credit card to pay for something. S75 doesnt protect you in that instance.
