It's funny though how the Special Investigations unit has only ever banged on about making payments on account, and never even mentioned CTDs. I wonder why...
Have you actually asked MTM? There might be a good reason why you can't use CTDs.

CTD's take a pretty pessimistic view in that if the tax planning is effective you have effectively locked money away for a long time at a very low rate of interest (i.e. by buying them you a implicitely assuming that the planning will fail) They only really come into their own if the revenue attack the scheme successfully. Understandably Montpelier wouldn't want to recommend these - their view was and is that the tax planning is effective.

Chaps, MTM are useless when it comes to communication, hence why I left the scheme a while back. I do however forward on copies of any HMRC contact - but never hear anything. With the last letter I emailed them I asked for advise - but still have not heard anything.
I feel on my own now with this and contacted HMRC myself. They were very helpful and did confirm that I would receive my money back if their plans go up in smoke, as they have not right to retain it.

No, and that's a fair point. As I said, it's probably too late to bother now so I ain't going to worry about it.

            Hey...

I too have been on the MTM scheme for some years and now eagerly awaiting the outcome. Any updates you have would be much appreciated.

                The vulture is...

Found out who the vulture of that website is.. simply by using the "Who Is" website.

                http://www.warr.co.uk/index.htm

Funny thing is that this vulture company is based very near to where the HMRC Special Compliance Office is based. Seems like they have some pals at HMRC who are probably drinking buddies... Must be slime.. why would they try to hide their names if they didn't have anything to hide!

The story is designed to scare people.

Is their a time frame in which HMRC can challenge previous tax returns? I used to be with an off shore but have been on shore for a while now and have not heard anything from HMRC on previous submissions that showed IOM income.

Isn't their website illegal? No indication of company/partnership number & registered address?

very very good spot - though the wording of the original should be enough to make anyone suspicious.
