I looked at the "Contractor" accountants and they don't provide the service I wanted. I use a local accountancy (Langdowns) who are fantastic.

Even though most people on here don't feel it necessary, I find it useful to take up their invite of going into the office (to see my fully qualified, named accountant) once a year to go through the books, look at upcoming changes to legislation, discuss my business needs, etc.
I can call or email them at any time and expect a response within 24 hours (even at weekends). They were willing to listen to my feelings on levels of risk in terms of structure and advise appropriately.

My guy understands contract work, and also treats me like a real business. I had a local accountant previously, who also understood the contract world, but was a dodgy little work-shy git, always advising questionable practice while taking an age to respond to anything. So local guys can be crap, but so can online only, contractor only accountants.

I think it's very much a case of what suits you. The important thing is your accountant understands your needs. For many that is provided by a contractor specialist. For others it's a local guy. Some are lucky and have a contractor specialist who is also local.
