    When Agents say...

"They really liked you and had nothing negative to say about you or your skill set... but they resourced the position internally..."

Is it BS or honesty? I never got that PM gig and that was the reason given. I have also had this reason BEFORE being called in for an interview for another gig.

    What do you guys think?

Depends on the client, some HR units insist that a "number" of external candidates are considered, so you could just be making up the numbers.

Of course other companies use the interview process to assess their own staff - i.e. if you're only a bit better that an internal you won't get the gig - you have to surpass them by a long way to make it financially worth while the company employing a contractor.

and of course, they could just be being nice and you actually stink...

Happens all the time. Who cares ? You didn't get it whatever the reason. It's not like a permie job you know.

Some firms like to find out what they can get on the contract market, if only to give their permie staff something to worry about.
It's my opinion and I'm entitled to it. www.areyoupopular.mobi

I agree, for whatever reason I never got the role, but I would like to know exactly what that reason was so I can fill in the gaps for next time.

Has anybody ever received negative feedback / healthy criticism from an agent or client after they were told they never got the gig?

The agent will always tell you what they think you want to hear in order to keep you on their side for the next time they want to screw you.

          For example:

"You were really close to getting that contract, however the client felt that somebody with your level of skills and knowledge might be a little bored with the lack of challenge in the role"

          actually means:

"The client was horrified by your lack of technical knowledge, dismal social skills, bad dress sense and blatant disregard for personal hygeine".

Actually I think this means "they went with a candidate from another agency"

It might mean that they went with another candidate from his/her agency! Did they say you were the only person they were putting forward?

It means that you have not got the job for <insert various reason here>

Move on and learn to live with it.
