Is anyone contracting for a US client using an umbrella ? Most of the threads I've searched are UK or EU clients: not sure if any UK umbrellas will work with US clients.

Most UK umbrella companies steer clear of contractors planning on working in the USA. The taxation situation in the States is complicated and in most cases, contractors would need to work via a US based contract management company.
Another issue is the litigious nature of the USA - most Umbrella companies' standard insurance package would not cover US based contractors as the cost can be prohibitive. -
You may want to try Lisa at ContractorUmbrella. My impression is consistent with One Click Group, but I believe Lisa has mentioned in the past that it wouldn't be a problem.
If there is an issue, I suspect it will be related to jurisdiction and governing law. Most US clients will not entertain jurisdiction and governing law outside of a US state, and the insurance for this can be prohibitive. Aside from insurance, there are some issues surrounding IRS reporting requirements, which are becoming more stringent and can even include foreign-source income (work conducted in the UK) of non-US persons (including companies). However, if the client will accept jurisdiction and governing law in England and Wales, you may have more traction. One obvious question would be: why do you want/need to do this through an umbrella?Comment
