Can anyone recommend a good small bagless upright vacuum cleaner for under £100? I can't afford a Dyson, which would be my machine of choice obviously.

Dyson are rubbish, too many plastic bits that snap off. They look nice though.
Pay less money and get better quality: Miele

Dyson for me (well her indoors who actually uses the thing) the biggest problem I have found is the cable seems to get fooked up regularly - but other than that they seem great little hoovers (sic)

Have heard others say Dyson aren't that good but there are some on here who have posted that theirs are still going strong in which case, if you can stretch to £150, Argos have the DC07 reduced.
Otherwise, vacs are so cheap nowadays, I'd just buy a £50 Samsung which would do the job.

Dyson for me. I have had one for eight years and it is still going strong. It has given me a couple of scares over the years, but it has always come good.
Ten years ago when I was furnishing a flat with a flatmate, we spent a weekend spending a small fortune on furniture and fittings. At the end we were looking for a vacuum cleaner. Because we had spent so much money we baulked at a Dyson and went for a cheap model (I was a permie back then
).
The suction was so useless that you had to pull the machine around picking up the dirt from the floor with your fingers and then holding it over the end of the hose.
A cheap vacuum cleaner is a false economy.Comment

Dyson are good, Henry hoovers are good, Miele is fantastic (but around 130 quid+).
