I understand how you feel about immigrants. We have a huge problem with them in New Zealand.

They turn up in their thousands, speaking some form of unintelligible gibberish, milk our social welfare system (half of them are over 60). The “New New Zealanders” seem to be constantly drunk, getting drunk or getting into fights, and to be honest, a lot of them are dirty and smell.

Even worse, when they get here the winge on and on about how much better it was back home. We all know what a god forsaken hell hole they came from, but they just don’t stop

Our problem is much bigger though, thanks to a government which is still intent on bringing more of them into the country. To give you an idea of the scale of the problem, over 90% of New Zealanders now have some UK ancestry

I am sure we would get lots of helpful advice... after all, the IT economy there is so bouyant they have shedloads of people wanting to move here to teach us Brits how to program... and of course settle here long term, not just hoover up as much money as they can then go home.
Yes there are several. We use this thing called the internet to find them

But we all seem to be curious - why do you want to come back? London is a great place to work for a while, build up some money, then take that away to somewhere that you really want to live.

If you have been living in Auckland for ten years then I would guess that you a sitting pretty on a decent house that has rocketed in value over the last five years. In that position I would stay there.
Thanks Gonzo, It was nice to get one serious reply.

You are pretty much bang on in terms of what I will be doing. I enjoy working in Europe/UK in small doses but find it all a bit much after a couple of years.

The UK is great for building up your CV as well. It can be a bit hard in New Zealand where we only have 3 Million people and a much smaller economy.

Same old story... 'how can I make a wad of cash out of the UK then bugger off back home'... while complaining about any negative attitude towards such behaviour, yet showing the same attitude to those of us who move to your country.

And if 90% of your country really has UK ancestry, why do you hate your family so much?

You won't have any trouble finding contract work with your skillset in the UK.

What you are observing in the responses to your query is the hypocracy of the typical UK contractor. On the one hand they want to be treated as independent businesses/entrepeneurs. On the other they want artificial protection from people like yourself who are likely to compete and take "their" money from clients.

I have about 10 years IT experience, with about 5 as a BA/Consultant. I have worked in a variety of industries but have specialised in advertising, eCommerce and telecommunications. My technical skills are pretty good, ranging from Java to SOA in .Net. I have all the usual BA skills (i.e. I can look really busy while browsing the internet and I can't spell)

              My questions are………

              - Given my background, how long is it likely to take to find a contract in London
              - What are rates like? From what I can see, 450 seems average
              - Is it worth the risk?

For all the homesick Kiwis out there, it is looooooovly and hot in NZ at the moment and the fishing is picking up. We are getting good bags of snapper around Rangitoto after work
              Fck off you baaaaaaaarstard!!!
Go back to your own country. We don't need you or your skills.

Is this sort of comment really necessary? It is childish and pathetic.
