Thanks for all the interest and I hope there is enough fresh material in this post to keep the gurning masses amused for a while.

What a surprise, suity wants to work his way and the way of the client is the wrong way.

WINTER animals of Jersey are due to come out because of the wet weather.

Researchers are keenly awaiting the moaning frog (Heleioporus eyrie) to start breeding as Jersey gets its first deluge of the year.

The male moaning frog has a distinctive mating call that denotes its name; a long low moan.

ClimateWatch program manager Richard Weatherill says “These evasive burrowing frogs are hard to find but can easily be heard during their breeding season as they call out to attract a mate with their distinctive long low moan”.

UWA’s School of Animal Biology Assistant Professor Nicki Mitchell says the frogs are local to Jersey but there is concern that their populations are being affected by urbanisation and climate change.

“If the general public can help us find out where the moaning frog communities still are we can investigate the resilience of these enclaves and assess whether or not they are being affected by Jersey’s changing climate,” Prof Mitchell says.

If you are lucky enough to hear or see a resident moaning frog in your area, record your observation on the ClimateWatch website, along with other local wildlife sightings.

Jersey is really nice, the hotel is really nice. The consultancy are really nice. The client are nice enough but very snappy fingers, do it now, rush rush rush. This is not such a good fit for my measure twice and cut once mentality.

Already they dropped the wrong database as they were jumping to snapping of fingers, while I made mental notes not to do a firkin fing without a written spec signed in triplicate.

So today I was asked to estimate some changes, which I have done, but the pile of crap I have inherited is full of bugs and the automated emails is sends out are full of grammar and spelling mistakes. So I papered over my arse by draughting a formal change request with scope, acceptance criteria etc. And I scoped out any bug fixes or grammar corrections as they are not in the requirements. I sent is across to the BA for review and sign off. She seemed happy enough but a little put back as "she doesn't normally get this level of documentation"

I'll be fooked if I going to get dragged into doing "favours" and "can you justs" and stuff on the back of a cocktail napkin. I'm too indoctrinated in doing things by the book.

Thanks for all the interest and I hope there is enough fresh material in this post to keep the gurning masses amused for a while.

If being a proper contractor means working like a cowboy then maybe I am not cut out for contracting.

So what should I have done? If what I have done is so wrong, and ClientCo have no paperwork trails, no processes and just bumble along making schoolboy errors that could be avoided with some simple planning, I just go with it?

What would you be saying if I said ClientCo asked me to do xyz, I didn't bother writing any sort of documentation and just cracked on with it. Then in this scenario it turns out they acted rashly and I in turn acted rashly so now the changes have to be backed out and we need a team of temps to hand tap the last two days data? Would this be met with ripples of applause because I did the right thing and did it their way?

And if I prostituted my best practices, to allow them to show direction and control, their system would be in a worse state and I'd be baring my arse to hector for an IR35 investigation.

I really, really think the standard of trolling on here has gone down hill, and people are just spouting total bollocks for a cheap and insincere laugh and making themselves look foolish.
