Discrimination in employment law must be a complex area, and I imagine there are loopholes in exceptional cases.

E.g. in TV and acting, they might have some loophole to ensure that prominent white characters are not played by dark skinned actors, and conversely prominent black characters played by 'blacked up' white people.

I think it would be more controversial to see a white man 'blacked up', than it would be to rule them out of the casting based on their colour.

Well I subscribe to the BBC Ouch! podcast (worth a listen) and they talk about this in the context of disabled characters... they are very unhappy when non-disabled actors are used to play disabled roles, when there are disabled actors around. So it seems there are special rules but maybe they just play the "he is best for the part" and ignore black peoples' applications for a white character rather than advertising "no blacks".

This is a false dichotomy. A person may have been born overseas to British parents and have been a British citizen all his life, British educated, and quite capable of working well in a British environment.

The original point being made was you didn't want Indians because you thought they were no good. What's that got to do with some patriotic impulse to use native workers?
