You're shouted at by 3 ordinarily clothed individuals, one wielding a gun yelling at you to stop, claiming they or he is Police.

You have done nothing wrong.

If they really are Police, chances are they won't shoot 'cos you're not threatening anyone and you have no weapon.

If they're not Police then you're definitely in mortal danger.

You have what you believe is an opportunity to escape a life threatening situation. You make your own split second decision.

It is one thing for us to take measure and excuse split second wrong decisions that highly trained police sometimes have to make.

However, according to some here it is not excusable for an untrained civilian to make the wrong split second decision concerning their own life threatening situation.

He made it and he was wrong.

Chances of seeing guns in people's hands during daylight in the tube who are not police are very slim, given low number of guns in this country, its probably zero.

It is of course possible that that guy had death threats from people who he knew could kill him and he mistaken the police for those guys, this can explain his behavior but not excuse: he mad serious error of judgement in trying to run so determindely from the police next day after terrorist acts in the same city.

I'd like to see what people who defend irresponsible actions of this guy say if he actually had bomb and blown it in the tube train killing dozen of commuters. What would you say about the police who was pursueing him but hesitant to open fire???

Its a load of bollox: stopping would have given him 30-40 years of life. Look up video of police dealing with an asian looking guy with a racksack in front of whitehall on Thu -- they aimed at him and ordered to put racksack away, hands up etc etc, then they searched him and arrested. He was later released as it was just false alarm, however the guys' right actions ensured that he lived to see another day, and kudos to him -- he did the right thing. Heck, people in this situation get so scared that the last thing they want to try is to run away!

I am amazed they did not shoot him there and then, perhaps they did not because they could not be sure they will hit his head to avoid possible bomb detonation -- which could be deadly in confined spaces made of concrete (say Hitler made it out of assasination only because he was not in normal concrete bunker that day).

One thing is for sure. The police are going to be a bit more cautious over the next few days, to avoid a repeat of what happened with the Brazillian guy. The terrorists know this, so what better time to go out strapped with explosives?

Within the next week or two there's going to be some incident - whether this is suicide bombings or some other method is impossible to say. Security is pretty tight in London at the moment, however it's impossible to stop and search anyone with a large coat or any bag - therefore some will slip through.

They will never give up - tie down the security on the tube and bus network, and they will target somewhere else - Liverpool, Birmingham, Bristol or even a large town. If anything this will probably have more impact than another attack on London as those that never visit London and feel they are safe will start to feel the terror Londoners are now feeling.

Yes I agree -- if they just attack any other city than London then suddenly ALL other places won't look as safe as they are now. Don't think its possible to protect civilians against suicide bombers, the work should be done up the chain before they actually leave their house with explosives ready to blow.

And why the heck nobody seems to be searching for Bin Laden? He is bound to have some databases of names of people who got trained in camps, plus getting him would be at least something to get back at the terrorists.

Bin Laden has never been a threat. He's just some puppet that was conveniently in the right place at the right time. It suited the CIA to blame him to give Americans something tangible to point their anger at.

Apparently the way that Al Qaeda is set up, there's no actual heirarchy, so Bin Laden is not going to have any connection at all to the group(s) that are currently targetting this country.

Yes I agree -- Al Qaeda now is just like Communist movement with Bin Laden being equivalent of Karl Marx: people orgranise their own cells in their own countries and blow themselves up in the name of ideology that drives AQ.

However I think getting Bin Laden is still worth bringing to justice, ideally in country where death penalty is not abolish as otherwise terrorists will start taking schools hostage to demand his release.

This is a short version of what his relatives, diplomats and others will be told using more politically correct words to ease the pain of the relatives.

Bottom line is this: if you try to run away from armed police then be prepared to get shot dead.
